PAK FILTER SECTION
PAK® HOUSING

Product Summary
This totally enclosed design, it is the perfect alternative to the plate and frame filter press. Since Pak® lenticular cartridges are comprised of the same filter media used in plate and frame filtration, existing process specifications can easily be translated from plate and frame to lenticular cartridge format. This provides a totally enclosed, operator friendly depth filtration system. The Pak® design also allows for short change out times, so down time is minimal as compared to other means of filtration. Housings are available in vertical or horizontal mountings, and for industrial use or fine filtration. Housings are 12" or 16" in diameter, and include designs for flat gasket or double-O-ring cartridges.
In applications throughout the pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetic, food & beverage and electric utility industries, European Filter Specialists can provide the Pak® cartridge housing to suit your needs. For industrial applications, we offer a top loading design, which can be loaded and reloaded with Paks® by a single operator. The sanitary design, or Pharma-Pak® housing, is equipped with a domed cylinder, which is easily removed and can be offered in sections to eliminate the need for an overhead hoist.

Skid Mountings
Multiple housings can be mounted on a single base to allow for greater flow or extended throughput. The skids can be stationary or portable.

Fully Enclosed
The fully enclosed design of the
Pak® filter helps to minimize exposure to the product stream in both liquid and vapor form.

Fast Loading and Unloading
Each Pak® can hold up to 3.42 square meters (36 square feet) of filtration area, and one housing can hold up to 13.7 square meters with only four 16-inch diameter Pak® elements. Once the housing is drained, the top can be removed, followed by the Pak® cartridges. New Pak® elements are installed and the dome is replaced. The unit is prepared for the next batch, or continuation of the existing run.

The Bio-Pak® is designed with no stainless steel parts. The center core is made of polypropylene and instead of flat
gasket endcaps, double o-ring plug-in style connectors are provided. This superior model provides the following advantages
over the stainless steel strapped, flat gasket design:
  • Positive sealing between cartridges and between the cartridge and the housing.
  • The Bio-Pak® center core provides a rigid structure, eliminating the need for a center post.
  • No center post means less labor, as there is no need for lifting cartridges up and over a non-existent center post.
  • Fewer material components in the assembly provide alternate disposal methods and reduce compatibility issues. The static structure of the polypropylene core does away with the moving seal required by flat gasket cartridges.

Sanitary Design
Pharma-Pak® cartridge housing helps to ensure the integrity of your pharmaceutical or biotech depth filtration process by providing a highly polished filter housing with sanitary fittings, vent connection and no internal threads. The design is provided in 316L stainless steel as standard and allows for easy cleaning after complete disassembly. The typical housing can hold up to four 12-inch or 16-inch diameter
Pak® cartridges in a vertical configuration.
Industrial Design
The standard industrial grade Zeta-Pak® filter housing is designed for everyday use in chemical applications where the high polish of the Pharma-Pak® is not required. The filter is available in Carbon Steel, 304, 316, or 316L Stainless Steel, Polypropylene or Fiberglass Reinforced Polypropylene. Flow rates of up to 375 liters per minute per housing are feasible and housings can be mounted in series or parallel on a single framework to allow for higher flowrates and/or throughput. The filters are available with the standard gasketed head and external tightening handle or in our flanged head with internal tightening handle design with the option for ASME code.
Horizontal Design
The industrial design can also be supplied in unique horizontal design. The horizontal design makes it easy for one person to operate the filter from loading to unloading. Additionally, the flanged head design can be provided with a hinge and swing tightening bolts to further simplify the operation.

The Double O-Ring Pak® System
The Double O-Ring Pak® System consists of our Pharma-Pak® highly polished stainless steel double o-ring housing used in conjunction with our Bio-Pak® double o-ring lenticular cartridge.
Current flat gasket cartridge technology can present difficulties with sealing between gaskets, the misalignment of cartridges and the dynamic tension system necessary to seal cartridges. The simple quarter-turn lock and static core structure of the double o-ring filter element eliminates these concerns.
The sanitary Pharma-Pak housing helps ensure the integrity of your pharmaceutical or biotech application by providing a highly polished filter housing with sanitary fittings, vent connection and no internal threads. This model is provided in 316L stainless steel as standard and allows for easy cleaning after complete disassembly. The typical housing can hold up to four 12-inch or 16-inch diameter Pak cartridges in a vertical configuration. For additional integrity assurance, Bio-Pak double O-ring cartridges should be used within this housing.
